Cents-ed!

Anticipating the questions,  since Christmas work on From Cents to Pence! has been very much on-going again, although sporadic in concentrated bursts due to, well, life intruding really :)

What have I been doing most recently?

I've condensed and re-written the introduction by pulling in some material from the main text that now sits better ahead of the history part of the book. I then formed a new preface out of what was the first two pages of the first chapter proper, once I realised that they really worked better on their own (inspired by some Christmas reading), and have since read through over half of the 32 chapters, feeding in most of the last scraps of useful info acquired over the past year into the relevant later chapters… something I don’t intend to repeat now.

So, yes, you could say that I’m slowly getting back into it :)

Some progress, yes?

  1. Hope you don't mind me saying, Rob, but that cover is completely underwhelming. You need something much more dramatic.

  2. Not at all. That's just a 'placeholder' image I've been using to givce the book some visual presence while its still in the works, so to speak. It's one of several designs from some years back - think of it as a more reference book train of thought. Anyway, one of the real constraints will be what we're allowed to show on the cover. If you take a look at a lot of the Marvel books out there, not everyone has Marvel images on the cover due to licensing constraints, hence the inclusion of covers taken from pre-Marvel UK eras on this dummy artwork. The idea was that the bottom tier of covers runs around the spine and across the back cover. I have some ideas for different, more dynamic approaches, but until we're at the stage where we go and find out what's possible, I think it would be foolish to spend too much time on this.
